The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium to Serbia HE Mrs Denise De Hauwere accompanied with the representative of the Belgium Business Club in Belgrade Mladen Herzl visited Kragujevac on February 24. The visit program included meeting with the Deputy Mayor of Kragujevac Nebojsa Zdravkovic, the Member of the City Council in charge of Economy and Private Entrepreneurship Vlado Vuckovic and Mayor’s Assistant for preservation of cultural heritage Slavica Djordjevic. The topics of potential economic and cultural cooperation were discussed.
“According to what I have seen in last couple of years, Kragujevac has been very active regarding its development. Following the Fiat investment in Kragujevac, new possibilities were opened not only for car industry but also for development of other companies, for one investment attracts the others”, noted Her Excellency Mrs De Hauwere. The purpose of this visit is to recognize developmental possibilities and needs of the City of Kragujevac, and than to pass on her impressions to the Belgium business circles in order to find out if there is economic interest for future cooperation.
The Deputy Mayor Zdravkovic accentuated two priorities that the City of Kragujevac has, such as development of auto industry as well as information technology. “Considering that car manufacturer Opel collaborates with many subcontractors in Belgium, the talks will be held about eventual arrival of components and spare parts producers to Kragujevac, along with possible founding of joint venture companies. Other aspects to be considered are cooperation at the IT sector, especially when we know that it is highly developed in this European country, but also possible cooperation in the field of culture”, he concluded.
On behalf of the Belgium Business Club in Belgrade Mr Herzl announced that it is to renew its activities in Serbia.
Afterwards, HE Mrs Denise De Hauwere visited the Museum Zastava Arms and the Memorial Park October in Kragujevac where she laid wreath beside the monument dedicated to the shot pupils and professors.
