Kragujevac has 180.252 residents and the birth rate is 0.2%. The share of the population who live in rural areas is 18,8%, whereas in the Republic this figure is 43,64%. Population in the working age covers 65,46% of the total number of inhabitants. The number of unemployed in Kragujevac according to the statistics of the National Employment Agency in September 2008 was 23.993.

As for the educational structure of the population the highest share belongs to (people above 15) people with secondary school degree (51,34%) and people with elementary school degree (21,22%), whereas the population with higher educational degree covers 6,0%, and with university degree 8,0%.
