

The meeting of the Working Group of the Korman Polje realization project, aiming to fully equip the area for the Fiat subcontractor’s arrival, was held in Kragujevac on February 16.
The Mayor of Kragujevac, who is also the President of the Working Group, Veroljub Stevanovic said that the City of Kragujevac did everything that was necessary and that the process of talks with the parcel owners is to start. According to him if everything goes as planned, the property issue at the Korman Polje will be solved within the next month, and infrastructure equipment will follow after the adoption of the National Investment Plan.
The Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Economy and Regional Development Mladjan Dinkic said that the assets for parcel owners refund payment has been provided by the Ministry, along with the assets for resumption of the highway construction works, also the state is going to finance construction of the South bypass. “The planning is going to be started jointly with the City of Kragujevac in the spring, and road construction works are to take place next year”, he added.
The Minister’s advisor Aleksandar Ljubic said that the state and the City of Kragujevac have done a great job making preparations for the start of the works at the Korman Polje.
“Respecting the work dynamics imposed by the Fiat, it is our obligation to round up the whole job and facilitate subcontractors’ arrival. However, we are going to finish our part of the job before the deadline.”
The members of the Working Group along with the delegation of the International Monetary Fund visited premises of the Fiat Automobiles Serbia, where they were shown a film on history of Fiat’s small cars entitled “Less is genius”, and afterwards the CEO of the FAS Giovanni De Fillipis presented their up-to-date results and future plans.
Mladjan Dinkic expressed his satisfaction over the fact that Kragujevac plant has continuously recorded positive progress. He also made public that he was informed about factory reconstruction works orders has started. It is expected the value of the works to rise approximately up to €150 million.
“We have seen new investment in the area of lacquering unit, a thousand workers have been employed in the FAS so now they can make living by themselves not by the government substitutes,” Dinkic noted. The ways to improve competitiveness of the Serbian exports and economy were considered at the meeting with the IMF representatives, and the project implemented in Kragujevac is just one of the ways to do it is said. The Minister confirmed that the Serbian Government is ready to support large investors, adding that it is good that the IMF representatives could see that Serbia export potentials are getting bigger owing to the arrival of companies such as Fiat.
