In the name of a two-decade traditionally friendly relationship and cooperation between Kragujevac and sister city Ingolstadt, delegation of the City of Kragujevac, dr Gordana Damnjanovic, member of the City Council in charge of health and social care and Katarina Babic, senior curator of the Memorial Park “21st October” and member of the Council of the International Antiwar Cartoon Salon accepted the invitation to participate in The Festival of Culture in The City Hall of Ingolstadt. They have participated with the Exhibition of the 18th Salon of Antiwar Cartoon – Kragujevac 2015.
Last year’s Salon of Antiwar Cartoon is characteristic for its great number of applications. There were even 800 works from all over the world, while the award of the City of Ingolstadt went to Christo Komarnitski, a Bulgarian cartoonist. Precisely his work was framed and given as a gift of the City of Kragujevac to Gabriel Engert Mayor’s Assistant in charge of Culture, Education and Youth.
It is an interesting fact that this year is a 20-year anniversary since official relationship between Kragujevac and Ingolstadt were established, while precisely 15 years ago Ingolstadt became the first partner city of the International Salon of Antiwar Cartoon Kragujevac. That same year Polish cities, Bydgoszcz and Bielsko Biala, Romanian city Pitesti, French city Suresnes, Italian city of Carrara joined as partners as well, while in 2009 the International Association of Peace Messenger Cities joined the salon. Thus the reputation of the Salon was gradually built and all of its sponsors had the opportunity to take part in this peace event – says Gordana Damnjanovic.
The idea for the Salon is to travel the world and carry the messages of peace sent by the cartoonist worldwide gathered around this antiwar event of Kragujevac. So far the Salon was exhibited in the UN building in New York, in European Commission’s Charlemagne building in Brussels, in Poltava (Ukraine), Berlin and Dresden (Germany), Bielsko Biala, Oświęcim, Opole, Bydgoszcz (Poland), Limasol (Cyprus), Mexico City (Mexico), Timisoara and Pitesti (Romania), Paris and Suresnes (France), Casino and Carrara (Italy), New Heaven (USA) and other.
