On the occasion of marking 180 years of establishing UK - Serbia diplomatic relation the Mayor of Kragujevac with his associates organized reception for the Ambassador of the UK to Serbia H.E. Denis Keefe and his wife, Deputy British Ambassador Tracy Gallagher, Colonel Simon Fitzgibbon Defense Attaché, Lucy Maizels Head of Political Department and Jeremy Lang Head of the Department for International Trade. The reception was attended by Miroslav Petrasinovic, President of the City Assembly, Ivica Momcilovic Deputy Mayor and Aleksandar Stajn international Cooperation Assistant.
Welcoming the Delegation of the Great Britain the Mayor Nikolic informed the Ambassador on the major projects implemented of significance for the City. The Mayor also mentioned the cooperation and recent visit of the UK Rescue Organization Blythswood Care and Scotland Rescue Organization donation to the City of Kragujevac.
Speaking about the position and European path of Serbia, the opportunities for development, reform and relations establishment with the neighboring countries H.E. Ambassador Denis Keefe emphasized the GB prospective assistance in relations development as well as his pleasure to be the part of it since the GB interests are stability, safety and prosperity of all Balkan countries.
Official diplomatic relations of Serbia and UK date from 1837 and the delivery of the letters of credence of the UK King to Prince Milos Obrenovic. The letters of credence were delivered by the diplomatic representative of the UK, Colonel Lloyd George Hodges, first consul to Serbia appointed for the trade exchange. The core of the relations of two countries is mutual values and positive examples of human cooperation.
The Delegation of the UK laid a wreath at the memorial of Doctor Elizabeth Ross at the City cemetery after the reception. Red Cross terrain volunteers unit attended the laying of the wreaths, too.
