Serbia edges closer to Europe

Eight-member delegation from the municipalities of the Serbian region of Sumadia, headed by the Mayor of the City of Kragujevac Veroljub Stevanovic, is visiting Brussels. Two months ago Kragujevac has appointed the representative of the city within the Office of the South Moravian Region in Brussels. This five-day stay, initiated upon the invitation of the South Moravian region of the Czech Republic, is an opportunity for investment possibilities to the Sumadia Region to be presented for the first time to the members of the European Parliament and the European Commission.

“Our main aim here is to confirm our intention and to arrange long term stay of our representative Borka Tomic at the office of the South Moravian Region in Brussels”, said Mayor Stevanovic for the RTK. “What is important for us is that we had the opportunity to meet the EU commissioner for enlargement Stefan Fule, as well as held talks with Lars-Erik Forsberg at the Directorate General for Enlargement. At the Committee of the Regions we met with Gianluca Spinaci of the cabinet of the President of the CoR as well as the coordinator for the Western Balkans Victor Tilea. In the next period every step we make, both on the state and the local authorities level, is very important. We all have to contribute something, in order for Serbia to be seen in the right light, it should be seen as it is, so that it can overcome all the difficulties on its way to the European Union”, Veroljub Stevanovic pointed out.

As the New Europe magazine reports Serbia is closer to Europe, and this partnership with the Czech Republic is opening the road ahead. The efforts of this cooperation were presented at the seminar organized in the Czech House in Brussels. The seminar focused on the achievements of both regions, but also challenges and various potential projects, including the ones in the field of infrastructure, university cooperation, auto industry, social inclusion, employment, agriculture and rural tourism. It was noted that the Liaison Officer of the Serbian City of Kragujevac Borka Tomic is the representative of one Serbian region in the European Union.
