As part of the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the mass execution of civilians in Kragujevac on October 21, 1941, in the presence of the Vice President of the German Bundestag Claudia Roth, German Ambassador HE Thomas Schieb, as well as representatives of the Roma national minority, Minister for Human and Minority Rights Gordana Comic and the City Council member for Health and Social Protection Gordana Damnjanović, laid wreaths by the monument Crystal Flower.

Roth is the first high-ranking German official to pay tribute to the victims of the Nazi crime in Kragujevac in the Second World War. On that occasion, she sent an apology – although I do not know if one can apologize at all for what has been done here, but I promise you that we will live as friends and in trust, Claudia Roth pointed out.

The Crystal Flower memorial is dedicated to little shoe shiners of Roma nationality who were also tragically killed in the mass shooting in Kragujevac. According to the Museum “21st October ” records 205 Roma were shot at this spot. The youngest who lost his life here was 12, and the oldest 60, said Gordana Damnjanović, member of the City Council for Health Care and Social Welfare. From this point, 80 years is a long period of time to forget, but Kragujevac, as a victim city, will never forget its innocent victims.

Over half a century, Kragujevac has been sending a peace message to the whole world as a warning that such crimes against humanity should never be forgotten. At the same time, for the sake of the future and prosperity, Kragujevac accepts apology, especially from the countries of Kragujevac’s friendly cities, Mrs. Damnjanovic said.
